Teeth Whitening Pompano Beach, FL

Teeth whitening treatments intrigue many people, especially those who are embarrassed about smiling. Different procedures can remove the ugly stains from your teeth and make them white once again. There are many options available, so you should consider what makes the most sense to you. An in-office professional treatment may be the right way to go. This method offers fast results and a bright smile that should last for years to come.

Teeth whitening choices to consider

More and more dentist’s offices are offering whitening treatments for patients. Dentists often have two options available: a procedure that takes place in the office and a treatment that the patient can do at home. In-office treatments only have to occur once or twice for the teeth to become whiter. The patient can also choose to use take-home trays, which they will fill with a whitening gel and wear each night for several weeks or months.

There are also products that people can find in the store. These come in various varieties and have a wide range of effectiveness. Different toothpaste brands have teeth whitening products. Others offer whitening strips or gels that the individual can apply to their teeth. Store-bought products can help teeth become whiter though the process is slower. The reason for this is that over-the-counter whitening products do not use as high a concentration of hydrogen peroxide as the main ingredient.

How in-office treatments work

Getting a teeth whitening treatment at the dentist’s office is much like going in for a regular checkup. The patient will sit or lie in the chair while a tray or mouthguard filled with the whitening solution remains in their mouth. This gel contains hydrogen peroxide, usually as much as 43%. Some solutions use carbamide peroxide to bleach the teeth.

Once the trays are over the patient’s teeth, heat or light will activate the ingredients. The peroxide will then penetrate the teeth and begin to break down the stains. This process should not take more than one hour. Many treatments only require one visit to the dentist’s office.

The results

The effectiveness of in-office teeth whitening is different for everyone. Factors include the severity of the patient’s discoloration and the percentage of peroxide the dentist uses in the solution. However, many people notice immediate results and an improvement of several color shades of white. Even patients who might not see whiter teeth right away should notice a difference within the next few days.

Keep the teeth white

The teeth whitening treatment will not keep the teeth without stains forever. The same issues that stained the teeth in the first place can discolor them again. However, patients who continue to brush twice a day and limit their intake of stain-causing food and drinks can expect whiter teeth for more than 10 years. Going to the dentist for regular cleanings will keep the teeth white too.
