Dental Restorations Pompano Beach, FL

A dental restoration can transform a patient's smile. If you often find yourself worrying about your noticeable dental problems, there is no need to feel alone. Many people deal with structural damage to their teeth or cosmetic issues.

Fortunately, dentists have a few tools at their disposal that can be used to fix such issues like a dental restoration. No issue is too severe to be fixed, from broken to badly decayed teeth.

Figuring out the right dental restoration for your structural or cosmetic oral issues

The two types of restorations used in dentistry are direct and indirect. Let us go over their differences.

Direct restorations

A direct dental restoration can be used to fix structural or cosmetic dental issues during a single office visit. For example, it might involve using composite resin to replace and rebuild damaged teeth structures. Direct restorations are performed at the clinic, so there is no need to involve a third party like a dental lab.

Indirect restorations

An indirect tooth restoration is required when there is not enough supportive tooth structure to restore the tooth. The dentist will carefully evaluate the patient and determine which restoration addresses their issues best.

The materials that the oral prosthetic will be made from will be selected based on the patient’s preferences, and an impression of the affected tooth will be taken. It is sent to a dental lab where restorations are made. The customized crown should be ready for installation in a couple of weeks. Indirect restorations are typically attached to teeth using dental cement. Popular restorative treatments used to fix damaged teeth include the following.

Dental fillings

Dental cavities develop when there is a buildup of bacteria, acids, and sugars in the mouth, often due to poor oral hygiene and bad eating habits. If left untreated, decay will expand the cavity, leading to a need for more complex procedures, like root canals. Fillings are the standard treatment for cavities, and they help keep bacteria and other irritants out of the hole. Silver amalgam fillings are the most affordable type, but composite and porcelain fillings have better aesthetics.

Dental crowns

A dental crown is an indirect tooth restoration option that covers an unstable tooth completely. It provides protection, gives the tooth back its healthy color, and restores its functionality. Crowns can be made from a range of materials, like porcelain, metal alloys, or a combination of both. It typically comes down to the patient’s personal preference and the dentist’s recommendations.

Dental implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that replaces the one that falls out when a tooth is lost. The implant is fitted with a single restoration like a crown to replace a single tooth or is attached to restorations like dentures and bridges to replace multiple teeth. Replacing the lost root helps keep the patient’s jaw stimulated, preventing the bone tissue loss that occurs when one or more teeth are lost. Implants do not damage adjacent teeth and do not require specialized cleaning.
