Do’s and Don’ts For Gentle Dental Care

Between biting, tearing, picking and chewing, we put a lot of daily wear and tear on our teeth. Even though teeth are hard and may seem tough, they're actually very fragile if not taken care of correctly. But thanks to better home and office treatments, more people are keeping their teeth free of disease and decay. A gentle dental care regimen not only ensures your teeth remain strong, but free of tooth staining plaque. Meaning not only are teeth staying stronger but whiter - and more vibrant.

At Home Gentle Dental Care

Most of our oral hygiene habits are developed during our childhood and have stuck with us into our adult years. Unfortunately, some of us are now reaping the lack of our labor in the form of gum disease and decaying teeth. However, no habit is ever set in stone and it's never too late to form healthy dental habits.

Let's begin with an easy one: brush twice a day and floss once. Make your most thorough cleaning before bedtime with a complete brushing and flossing. When you sleep, your mouth dries up making it easier for bacteria and acids to attack your teeth. Minimizing this bacteria before bedtime cuts back on damage to your teeth during the night. In the morning, brush again to remove plaque that built up overnight. Also, when you brush, do so lightly. Too much pressure and scraping can wear down the enamel on your teeth.

Other tips to take into consideration when brushing your teeth include:

  • Brush at max three times a day to save your gums
  • Brush for at least two minutes
  • Get into a regular pattern and rythm when brushing to ensure your work is thorough
  • Always use a brush with soft or extra-soft bristles
  • Change your toothbrush every three months

Gentle Dental Cosmetic Dentistry

At home care is only one part of a gentle dental care routine. It's paramount that you see your general dentist for regular check ups to keep oral health in tip-top shape. The rule of thumb for general dentist visits call for one visit every six months. Bacteria and decay can move in fast; if visits aren't frequent, it can quickly deteriorate teeth. Your mouth is a gateway and studies show that maintaining a healthy mouth keep your body healthy as well and decreases the chance of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Sedation Dentistry

Many people avoid the dentist altogether out of longtime fears and anxiety. At our Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale dental office, we have the option of using Sedation Dentistry to keep your mind at ease. Our goal is to provide you with the most gentle dental experience there is to transform a visit to the dentist into a relaxing experience to instantly improve your oral health and enhance your well-being.
